Tranquilizers

What are tranquilizers?

Tranquilizers are usually legal drugs that can be dangerous when taken without a legal prescription. Doctors often give them to people with mental or physical problems to relieve anxiety or muscle pain.

What do they do?

Very small amounts of tranquilizers make people relaxed and calm. Larger amounts make them slur their speech and lose control of their muscles (including their bowels). It becomes hard to breathe. Even larger amounts cause depression, coma, and death. Over time, they can cause birth defects, even years down the road.

Some people think that tranquilizers are safe because they can be prescribed by a doctor. This is only true for the people who are prescribed these tranquilizers. For other people, they can be dangerous.

Who uses them?

All kinds of people use tranquilizers.
